Woodlot Words // Hands by Jewel

Our hands are symbolic of our will. Like our will, our hands are ours alone. In times like these, when the future is uncertain, and much around us feels out of our control, it is with our hands that we can still offer help, give blessings, and choose faith instead.
However small we may feel in the current situation, we have — as we do in each and every challenge that life presents us with — a choice. A choice to react with kindness and compassion, to have faith in others, as well as in ourselves, and to seek opportunities to be of service, rather than surrender to fear and sorrow.
The choice to be brave in the face of the unknown is never an easy one, but courage needn’t be a consistent state of being. In fact, it hardly ever is. Instead, it’s a practice, like meditation, yoga, creation, and faith itself. We encourage you to be gentle with yourself during this strange season, and to have patience with yourself and others.
Today, we wanted to share with you some inspirational song lyrics from singer-songwriter, Jewel. These words were written a quarter of a century ago, but we thought them to be quite fitting of current times.
If I could tell the world just one thing
It would be, ‘We're all ok’
And not to worry ‘cause worry is wasteful
And useless in times like these
I won’t be made useless
I won't be idled with despair
I will gather myself around my faith
For light does the darkness most fear
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
Poverty stole your golden shoes
It didn't steal your laughter
And heartache came to visit me
But I knew it wasn't ever after
We’ll fight, not out of spite
For someone must stand up for what's right
‘Cause where there's a man who has no voice
There ours shall go singing
My hands are small, I know,
But they're not yours, they are my own
But they're not yours, they are my own
And I am never broken
In the end, only kindness matters
In the end, only kindness matters
— HANDS, JEWEL
We encourage you to find this song wherever you get music, light a candle, and listen. Allow the lyrics to guide you back to faith, back to hope, and back to belief in yourself. You are much greater than your current circumstances. We all are.
With love + light,
xx Woodlot
